PRAIRIE DOG HISTORY The Prairie Dog is going into its 27th year of operation in 2008. The theatre first opened its gate back in 1981 and since that time the projector has logged well over 4000 hours of operation. The theatre has plenty of room; enough for more than 300 cars. If you don't have a car, well bring your truck or your mobile home even. You are all welcome and we'll find a place for you. Back in the "good old days" you had to drive up on your piece of hill and reach out the window to get the speaker in. Not any more. Now you can tune your radio into 98.5 FM and listen to the movie in stereo. And if your radio doesn't happen to be working we'll lend you one for the duration of the show. The Prairie Dog has a special tribute page for Mabel Parobec who with her husband Evans built the theatre. Check it out!
The Prairie Dog Drive-In Theatre is now owned and operated by Ray Boutin, his wife Frances and their daughters Simone and Janelle. As when Mabel and her husband operated the theatre, we at the Prairie Dog are dedicated to bringing great entertainment and a lot of fun to all who come to visit.
Here you can see the Prairie Dog Snack House and Projection Building. The entrance is to the left of the Snack House and that is where many of Festus's photos originate. The theatre is located in the vast open landscape of the Canadian prairies. This is a beautiful place to live!
These two photos were taken when Festus went up for a plane ride in the summer of 2003. He had a great time! If you look carefully you can see the entire Festus clan waving.
These fellows are doing a little grazing before the show starts. They don't pay to see the movies but are in big trouble if the old Prairie Dog decides to offer burgers on the menu.

Coming to the Prairie Dog is a whole lot of fun but we are always open to suggestions on how we can have even more fun. How about a "Bingo and a Movie Fundraiser". If you have any suggestions don't hesitate to give us a call and we can discuss your idea. Festus says: "Shoot for the moon, land in the stars. Or land at the Prairie Dog. That's OK too." 2002: The Prairie Dog Theatre was featured in the Carlyle Summertimes paper and the article can be read in the Prairie Dog News.
